Tokusatsu, meaning 'special effects', is a genre of Japanese cinema.
Known for its emphasis on live action set pieces and its heavy use of practical effects. I wanted to create an advertising campaign aimed at a western audience which captures the exciting and unusual characteristics of the genre. This included creating a trailer which attempts to encapsulate the strangeness and excitement of these movies, seen from the perspective of a Western audience. The animation has a quirky, retro aesthetic while still feeling contemporary.

I created the trailer over three weeks using After Effects and Photoshop. I came back to this project some months later, creating the accompanying branding and merchandise used to promote the festival.
